Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital raised awareness about childhood cancer
Greater Noida : On the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital celebrated life with children who have successfully battled cancer. Four young survivors, who returned to healthy lives after undergoing challenging treatments, participated in the event.
The celebration included cake cutting, games with the children, and a felicitation ceremony. Their smiling faces filled the atmosphere with hope and courage.
Senior specialist Dr. (Major) Ravi Shankar, Consultant – Pediatric Hemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant, who treated the children, was also present. He stated that blood cancer is the most common type of cancer among children in Uttar Pradesh as well as globally.
Dr. Ravi Shankar said, “If a child experiences recurrent fever, anemia that does not improve with medication, unusual bleeding, visible lumps in the body, or persistent joint pain, these symptoms should not be ignored as minor illnesses. Timely basic investigations can help detect serious diseases at an early stage.”
He further explained that in small towns and semi-urban areas, diagnosis is often delayed because symptoms resemble common illnesses. “If detected at an early stage, 90–95% of childhood cancer cases can be treated successfully. Treatment outcomes in children are generally more favorable than in adults.”
In India, approximately 50,000 to 60,000 new cases of childhood cancer are reported every year. Improved healthcare facilities have led to better detection rates.
Dr. Ravi Shankar also shared the story of a child whose cancer relapsed multiple times but ultimately recovered after a bone marrow transplant. He emphasized that every child is a warrior, and with timely and appropriate treatment, childhood cancer can be defeated.
Dr. Kapil Tyagi, Managing Director of Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, said, “Celebrating life with these brave children is a moment of pride for us. With timely diagnosis and dedicated treatment, 90–95% of cases can be successfully treated.”
Amit Singh, Group CEO of Yatharth Hospital, said, “Awareness is the strongest weapon against childhood cancer. With timely screening, advanced technology, and a dedicated team, we can provide children with a healthy, safe, and hopeful future.”
Dr. Sunil Balyan, COO of Yatharth Hospital Greater Noida, added, “Early diagnosis in children can save lives. With parental awareness and expert treatment, 90–95% successful outcomes are achievable. This remains our commitment and resolve.”
Through this initiative, the hospital conveyed a powerful message that awareness and timely treatment can give children a new lease on life.
